Program Models
Georgia PINES utilizes four nationally validated curricula, the SKI-HI, INSITE, VIISA and Deaf Mentor models,
all developed at Utah State University. SKI-HI, INSITE, and VIISA services are provided by professionals called
parent advisors. The Deaf Mentor Model is provided by signing deaf adults who have a four-year degree and are
actively involved with the Deaf Community.
Family-centered services are provided in the home or other natural environment in a partnership with the family.
Parent advisors utilize the appropriate curriculum to provide information and activities to the families or care givers
related to the child's vision and/or hearing loss. Families and care givers are encouraged to apply this information to
enhance the child's development.
Collaboration is encouraged among the Georgia PINES staff and other individuals and agencies serving the families.
